The beautiful colours and shapes that nature provides are so inspiring to the artist in me. Trying to capture the look in the eye, the glow in their fur or feathers, their unique personalities is always challenging.
Experimenting with different mediums is even more prevalent in my work with animal portraits. Working in coloured pencil here is my favourite. Building up the intricate layers of their fur or feathers takes time and patience.
More recently, I am playing with the digital tool Procreate – my new favourite feature is the undo option – I can push the boundaries and return to a previous state if (… not if – when!) I go too far.
I will have a lifetime of inspiration with these subjects and never get tired of trying to master the art of capturing pet love.
