Portraiture is an amazing part of art history. Being able to capture not only a recognisable likeness, but a character trait is a talent in itself, and something I am working on and trying to achieve. As the title says, it is a pain and a pleasure… although I have yet to experience the pleasure part!
In my work, you will see that I paint and draw the same people many times. This is part of my artist struggle, trying constantly to capture the character that I see. I find that painting and drawing the same person over and over helps me to improve.

This challenge has helped me to appreciate the masters of portraiture.
I won’t give up, who knows, one day I may experience the pleasure of portraiture.
