My figure tree series has grown out of a love of life drawing… and a vivid imagination.
After attending life drawing workshops where we had multiple models, I was struck by how similar the body curves were to the fig tree drawings I was so fond of doing. In particular, the shapes of the trunks, aerial roots, and branches of the fig tree remind me of the body shapes, but in an unnatural setting.
I have explored this topic many times with different mediums and still enjoy the intricacies of how tree limbs and body form entwine and interact to become one. Is it a tree brimming with life, or life forming the soul of the tree?
Once you see it, you can’t un-see it. The shapes continue to fascinate me and it is a subject I am happy to revisit often.
