Look under the Cook

The Captain Cook Bridge, with its graceful arches, is often overlooked by the thousands of daily commuters who travel over and under it. This series provides a good “underlook” at this well-known Brisbane Landmark. In this scene, the afternoon sunlight bathes the bridge and river in a beautiful golden glow. The view on the river is always changing, the colours, the way the light reflects, and under the bridge is calm, only the hum of the traffic flowing above gives you a hint of the bustling city above.

This view, from the Goodwill Bridge, captures a few of Brisbane’s iconic landmarks. Besides the Captain Cook Bridge, there is:

  • the Brisbane River, fringed with mangroves, reflects the sky at sunset that lifts its normally murky brown image.
  • Kangaroo Point Cliffs glowing in the afternoon sun, and reflecting across this reach of the river.
  • There is a hint of the iconic red “Man and Matter” statues that feature on the river walk.
  • A City Cat ferry cruises gracefully past, and
  • just out of sight historic Lamb House, stands stately overlooking them all.
